Sheffield Centertainment murder: Seven arrested after man is killed outside cinema

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was killed in an attack outside a cinema in Sheffield.

The man, who is believed to be in his 20s, was assaulted outside Cineworld at Valley Centertainment, Broughton Road at approximately 9:20pm on Friday.

Police officers attended the scene and discovered “patches of blood but no victim”, South Yorkshire Police said.

The victim had been taken to Northern General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation into the murder has been launched.

Six men and one woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder overnight. They are currently in police custody, South Yorkshire Police said.

Formal identification and a forensic post-mortem examination of the victim is yet to take place.

Detective chief inspector Steve Handley, who is overseeing the investigation, appealed to witnesses for information.

Inspector Handley said: “I’d urge anyone who was in the area yesterday evening who may have witnessed anything to get in touch.”

A Cineworld spokesperson said: “We are aware that the police are investigating an incident that took place outside Cineworld Sheffield on Friday night. We are doing all we can to support their investigation.

A police cordon remains in place at the scene.
