Six people have been arrested following a large brawl in Southport in which two people were stabbed and five injured.

Police were called to Lord Street, near to the Scarisbrick Hotel, at around 6.11am on Saturday after receiving reports of a huge fight involving men and women.

Five people were injured during the incident. Two women suffered facial bruising and another suffered a stab wound to her arm.

One of the men was stabbed in the neck and had another wound in the head. Police said none of the injuries were serious and that those hurt had been released from hospital.

Merseyside Police said on Sunday that a sixth person had been arrested.

In a statement, they said: “Two men, aged 21 years from Southport and 20 years from Lancashire, and three women, (two aged 21 years from Southport and one aged 20 years from Kirkby) were arrested yesterday on suspicion of Causing Section 18 wounding and affray and are being interviewed by detectives.

“A sixth man, aged 24 years from Southport has also been arrested on suspicion of assault and affray and has been taken to a police station where he will be interviewed by detectives.”

Police spoke to witnesses at the scene and are currently examining CCTV in the surrounding area.

But they are still appealing for anyone with useful information to come forward, such as people with dash-cam or phone footage of the fight.

Detective Chief Inspector John Williams, of Merseyside Police, said: “Our investigation is at a very early stage and we are still trying to piece together what happened during this incident.

“Extra officers will be on patrol to reassure local people and we are determined to bring those responsible to justice.

“We know that a number of people and drivers were in the area at the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened or has any information which could help with our inquiries to come forward.”
