A teenager has been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of a double-decker bus in the Lake District.

Jamie Christopher Hoare, 18, of High Lea Walk, Barrow, was charged with aggravated taking without the consent of the owner, criminal damage, driving without insurance, driving whilst disqualified and driving while over the legal alcohol limit.

The bus was taken from Barrow, Cumbria at 3.45am on Saturday and spotted by a police patrol on the A590, heading for Ulverston. A 50mph chase ensued when the driver refused to pull over, before crashing into a roundabout near Kendal.

Mr Hoare had "serious but non life-threatening" injuries and was taken to hospital.
