Detectives arrested a 17-year-old yesterday after two children, aged five and two, died in a "suspicious" house fire in Buxton, Derbyshire.

The victims' mother, named locally as Fiona Adams, 23, escaped the blaze by jumping from a window on to a trampoline in the garden, while holding her eight-month-old baby. Both suffered severe burns, but the two other children, Niamh and Cayden, were trapped.

Police had been called to an incident at the house an hour before the blaze broke out, when Ms Adams reported nuisance behaviour in the garden. Derbyshire's Assistant Chief Constable, Steve Cotterill, said two officers went to the house while others toured the area in a car. "Nothing was found," he said. The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
