Two charged after New Year shooting

Two men have been charged in connection with a shooting in the early hours of New Year's Day.

Police received a report shortly after 3am on Tuesday that a man had been shot in Halfway, Sheffield.

They found an 18-year-old man in a communal grass area on the estate with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, and he was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police believe the man, from Westfield, Sheffield, had been at a house party earlier that evening.

Raymond Swindells, 29, has been charged with possessing a firearm with the intent to cause fear of violence, possessing an offensive weapon and affray.

Stuart Hurst, 27, has also been charged with possessing a firearm with the intent to cause fear of violence, possessing a firearm whilst prohibited and affray. Both men will appear at Sheffield Magistrates Court today.

A third man, aged 24, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is in police custody.
