Murder investigation launched after two elderly people found dead at Stockport home

A murder investigation has been launched after two pensioners were found dead at a home in Stockport.

The bodies of a 69-year-old man and 72-year-old woman were found on Tuesday evening, Greater Manchester Police said. While the case is being treated as a suspected murder, the force said it was not seeking anyone else in connection with the deaths.

A spokesperson said officers were called out following a report of concern for the welfare of the occupants of the Sandown Road address at 7:30pm and found the bodies upon arrival.

Senior investigating officer Bob Tonge said: "This is a very sad incident and our thoughts are with the family at this unimaginably difficult time.

"We are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with this incident.

"However, we remain keen to hear from anyone who has information and may help us understand events during the preceding days.

"It is important for the family of those who have died that we establish the full circumstances of their deaths.

"If you can assist our inquiries, please get in touch as soon as possible."

Anyone with information can call police on 0161 856 8797 or the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
