'Significant development' made in investigation, say police

Police officers investigating the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old in north east London have recovered a car believed to have been used in the attack.

A vehicle was used to knock Jayden Moodie off his moped on Tuesday evening in Waltham Forest.

The schoolboy was then stabbed multiple times, in what detectives believe was a targeted attack.

Paramedics attended the scene shortly afterwards but were unable to save Jayden's life.

"We are treating the recovery of the car as a significant development in our enquiries, which are still very much in their early stages," Detective Chief Inspector Chris Soole said.

Police officers recovered the black Mercedes B Class car in the Carlisle Road area of Leyton on Wednesday.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are continuing.

"Any murder is appalling but the death of a 14-year-old boy is particularly shocking," Det Ch Insp Soole said.

"We continue to investigate why Jayden was singled out and retain an open mind at this time."

A section 60 order was put in place to allow officers to search anyone in the vicinity of the scene for weapons.

"Jayden's family are being fully supported and kept updated by our team. This is a truly heartbreaking time for them and we are doing everything we can to find out who was responsible for Jayden's death," Det Ch Insp Soole said.
