Three people have been taken to hospital after a stabbing attack near Watford Football Club’s stadium.

Police, including armed officers, were called to Vicarage Road in the early hours.

No arrests have been made, a Hertfordshire Constabulary spokeswoman told The Independent.

In a statement, she added: “At 3.17am police were called to Vicarage Road, Watford, following a report of an incident where several people had sustained stab wounds. Officers attended alongside the ambulance service.

“The road is currently closed and members of the public are asked to avoid the area as police continue their investigation.

“Enquiries into the incident are continuing at this time, however it is believed to have been an isolated incident between people who are known to each other and there is no perceived ongoing threat to members of the community.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference ISR 49 of today’s date, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Photographs showed a cordon and several police cars near an MOT centre and the Red Lion pub, just yards from Watford’s stadium.
