A woman in her sixties has been stabbed as she walked by a children’s playground in east London.

The woman was injured during the attack on a path between Legion Terrace and Garrison Road in Bow on Friday, Scotland Yard said.

Police officers were later called to a home in Chariot Close at around 9.50pm.

The woman was taken to a hospital in east London where she continues to be treated.

Her condition is not life threatening.

The suspect, who fled on foot, was described as a black male in his forties, of a chubby build and dressed in grey.

Detective constable Zack Chughtai, of Tower Hamlets CID, said: “The victim was on her way back from Roman Road where she had just bought fish and chips when she was approached by the suspect next to a children’s playground and was attacked.

“Our work continues to establish the motive behind this incident and I would appeal to anyone who can assist the investigation to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tower Hamlets CID on 020 7275 4550 or tweet information to @MetCC. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
