A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a teenage boy who was stabbed to death in London earlier this month.

Jay Hughes, 15, was attacked near a chicken shop in Bellingham, south-east London, on 1 November.

He was rushed to hospital after being stabbing but died three hours later.

A post mortem found a single stab wound has caused his death.

London's Metropolitan Police said a 21-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of murder. She has been released on bail until mid-December.

Detectives were still searching for other people who may be responsible and have made a fresh call for information following the woman's arrest.

"My team continues to work around the clock to apprehend those responsible for this callous attack, which cost a young boy his life," said Detective Chief Inspector Chris Soole. "I'd urge anyone with information, no matter how insignificant they believe it is, to do the right thing and get in contact with us as soon as possible."

Jay's childhood friend Tayla Ann Warwick, 19, said he was a "loving and thoughtful" boy who had loved roller skating and riding his bike.

"He was the kindest person, he was so loving and thoughtful, he was well known with everyone," she said.

He was the third teenage boy to be knifed to death in south London this month and less than 24 hours after he was killed, a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed outside Clapham South Tube Station.

In total, there have been 120 homicides in the capital this year.
