Woman's body found in burning car in Somerset

A major police investigation has been launched after the discovery of a woman's body in a burning car.

Detectives in Somerset confirmed they are treating the woman's death as suspicious.

Police were called to reports of a car on fire in a field off the A358 at Ashill, near Ilminster at 6.30am today.

Fire crews called to the scene found the body of a woman inside the vehicle.

The woman has not been identified and no other details have been released.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokeswoman said: "Police have confirmed they are treating the discovery of a body in a car this morning in Ashill as suspicious.

"Anyone who was in the area at the time and who believes they may have any information is asked to contact police on 101."
