Edwina Currie, the Tory MP for Derbyshire South, was yesterday selected to fight the Conservative-held seat of Bedfordshire South at the European elections in June next year. Mrs Currie, who will be defending a majority of 2,977, said she would resign her Westminster seat at the next general election. Alan Clark, the former defence minister, failed in his attempt to be selected as the Tory candidate in the forthcoming Newbury by-election.
