Andrew Motion was born in 1952 and educated at University College, Oxford. He is the author of six previous books of poems, including Natural Causes (Chatto & Windus, 1987) and Love in a Life (Faber, 1991). This is a small section from Dream of Peace within the poem Lines of Desire, published this month in his new collection The Price of Everything (Faber, pounds 6.99).
