Detectives believe a burnt-out incendiary device discovered at the Dillons bookstore in Northumberland Avenue, central London, was one of several planted at shops in the West End by the IRA on Wednesday, but it was 'such a damp squib' that no one had noticed it. Forty books were found to have been slightly damaged by the device. The other firebombs, including one at the same store, exploded on Wednesday.
