A desperate man who tried to hold up a building society using a toy gun made from a chairleg, a pen, and a book, was jailed for 4 1/2 years at the Old Bailey. David O'Shaughnessy, 33, of Catford, south-east London, felt so guilty afterwards that he immediately gave himself up.
