One of two Irishmen facing charges in connection with the alleged planting of firebombs in Leeds is staging a 'dirty protest' in Durham prison.
Eamonn O'Donnell, 37, a mature student, has been smearing his cell with his excrement for two weeks, in protest at the conditions under which he is being kept.
Mr O'Donnell faces what amounts to solitary confinement because the prison says it does not have enough staff to allow him association or to attend religious services. He also says he has been prevented from visiting the lavatory.
