A motorist who did not realise he had struck and seriously injured a 15-year-old girl was fined pounds 200 for careless driving and ordered to pay pounds 500 costs. Horseferry Road magistrates' court in central London was told Edward Collett, 75, a former prison officer, of Chelsea, west London, thought his windscreen had been smashed by a stone thrown from a bus in November 1991.
