EC farm boss quits

RAY MacSharry, the EC farm commissioner, is to quit in January. Mr MacSharry, 54, who had been invited by Albert Reynolds, the Irish Prime Minister, to stay on as Ireland's commissioner for another four years, said he would be leaving politics for business. In May, he secured approval for a fundamental set of reforms of EC agriculture policy.
