Entrapment ruling
Police acted lawfully in posing as hitmen to ensnare two people jailed for trying to hire contract killers, the Court of Appeal ruled. Dismissing an application by Keith Smurthwaite and Susan Gill, Lord Taylor said: 'The fact that the evidence has been obtained by entrapment, or by an agent provocateur or by a trick does not of itself require a trial judge to exclude it.'
