Escaped killer recaptured

A CONVICTED murderer who escaped from prison guards during a hospital visit has been arrested in Spain and charged with sexual offences, it was confirmed last night.

The Foreign Office said that Peter Heneghan, who was serving life at Nottingham prison, was arrested in the resort of Benidorm and charged with sexually assaulting minors.

Heneghan, 32, was convicted at Manchester Crown Court eight years ago of the gangland shooting of a nightclub doorman in Stretford.

He escaped during a visit to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham last March when two men wearing crash helmets sprayed his two guards with CS gas.

Meanwhile, Northumbria Police confirmed yesterday that a man facing kidnap and assault charges who escaped from a prison van taking him to court in April was arrested at Malaga airport on Friday.

A spokesman said armed Spanish police were acting on information from detectives in Newcastle when they set a trap for Patrick Conroy, 34, who had escaped when a van taking prisoners to court in the city was ambushed.
