Eviction windfall

A 68-year-old woman who has spent 20 years sleeping on the streets after being evicted from her home in Birmingham was given a pounds 17,000 lump sum by a social security appeal panel which ruled that she was entitled to income support. Dot Smith's claim was backdated to 1984 and could be further backdated another 10 years.
