Asenior manager at the British Council - a government-funded body which promotes Britain's cultural interests abroad - was jailed for 15 months at Southwark Crown Court for stealing more than pounds 50,000. Lee Poynter, 30, of Plumstead, south-east London, obtained the money by submitting claims for false expenses.
