Explosion confirmed as bomb

A small bomb exploded in east London early yesterday, Scotland Yard confirmed last night. It damaged a sewage pipe over the river Lee, near Wick Lane, Hackney Wick, but no one was injured. The device exploded hours after three IRA bombs in various parts of the capital caused six injuries.
