Coastguards have attacked the Automobile Association's advertising claim to be the fourth emergency service. John Astbury, HM Coastguard chief operations officer, said the AA was 'in the same category as the gas board or the plumber'. The AA said: 'As far as our members are concerned we are the fourth emergency service. You do not see the coastguard in the fast lane of the M6.'
