Apolice plan to systematically photograph and fingerprint people arrested for drink-driving offences is expected to be implemented early next year. The information will be kept at Scotland Yard if the driver is convicted and destroyed in the event of an acquittal.

Senior police believe that the indignity of the new procedure will act as an added deterrent.
