The past month was the warmest and driest June since 1976. A London Weather Centre spokesman said: 'It looks as though this was one of the six warmest Junes this century.' The month ended with some heavy rain, however. There was flooding in south Wales, and no play was possible at Wimbledon until the late afternoon.
