John Farnworth popcorn challenge

A freestyle footballer has set his most ambitious world record yet - without a football in sight.

Keepy-up king John Farnworth, whose incredible ball skills have impressed world football stars including Neymar and Juan Mata, looks set to have bagged his ninth Guinness World Record after kicking 14 pieces of popcorn high into the air, then catching them in his mouth, in the space of a minute.

Reflecting on the stunt, Mr Farnworth said: “Swapping a match-sized ball for popcorn was more challenging than I’d anticipated, but I’m thrilled to have set the world’s first record for kicking popcorn into the mouth."

Evidence of Mr Farnworth's world record attempt has been submitted to Guinness World Records for verification.

The most popcorn thrown and caught in the mouth in one minute is 37, achieved by Ashrita Furman and Bipin Larkin in New York in 2016.
