Fraud charges
A councillor who helped the Conservatives to power in a left-wing London borough has been charged in connection with alleged mortgage, benefits and council housing frauds. Nkechi Amalu-Johnson, 45, former housing committee chairwoman with Brent council whose defection from Labour two years ago gave the Conservatives control, is to appear before magistrates on 1 April.
