The pop star George Michael, 30, yesterday agreed to pay the estimated pounds 3m legal costs of his High Court attempt to break away from his record company, Sony. Mr Justice Jonathan Parker, who on Tuesday rejected Michael's claims that his contract was an unfair restraint of trade and therefore unenforceable, awarded the company costs against him, by consent, at a two-minute hearing.
The costs of both sides for the case - including years of preparation and a 74-day court hearing - have been unofficially put at about pounds 3m. Michael is expected to appeal against the judgment.
