A two-year-old girl was found clinging to her mother's body, pleading with her to wake up, police said yesterday.

Anna Wilkinson, 29, was found dead in her flat in Portsmouth, Hampshire, by her boyfriend who had called to wish her a happy new year. He broke the door down after hearing the child's pleas. Police believe Ms Wilkinson may have died from a drug overdose.
