Girl burnt

A 16-year-old girl lay smouldering on a railway track with rescuers unable to touch her after she received an electric shock from overhead cables at Congleton, Cheshire. She sustained 70 per cent burns and was taken to a specialist unit at Birmingham General Hospital.

An inquiry will be held after five people were injured when a runaway train without a driver crashed into another engine at Lingfield station, Surrey.
