Darius Guppy, of Ladbroke Grove, west London, and Benedict Marsh, of Southwark, south London, pleaded guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court to falsely claiming nearly pounds 200,000 VAT on a consignment of gold bullion. Guppy, friend of the Princess of Wales's brother Earl Spencer, and Marsh have been convicted of a pounds 1.8m gems insurance swindle. They will be sentenced on 23 March.
