7/7 victims tell of horrific injuries

Only when he struggled to get up to help other injured passengers did Andrew Brown realise he had lost his legs, he explained yesterday.

The inquest of the 52 commuters who died in bombings on 7 July 2005 heard testimonies from two victims. Mr Brown and Martine Wright were sitting next to each when Shehzad Tanweer detonated his bomb on the Aldgate train.

For 15 minutes after the explosion Mr Brown was blacked-out. "At the time I wasn't feeling any pain. I tried to stand up to help them and at that point I just fell forward into the debris," said the airport worker. "I managed to regain my seat and lifted my right leg to find out why I had fallen over, and my leg had gone."

Elizabeth Kenworthy, an off-duty policewoman, handed over her jacket as a tourniquet for his right leg. She also used a belt to stem the bleeding on Ms Wright.
