A 10-mile stretch of the A18 from Laceby to Ludborough in Lincolnshire has been named as the most dangerous road in Britain by road safety campaigners.

The road had a EuroRAP (European Road Assessment Programme) rating of 209.5 between 2011 and 2013, up from 135 between 2008 and 2010, according to a new report released by the Road Safety Foundation.

It comes as the number of fatal and serious crashes recorded spiked from 10 in 2008-10 to 17 in 2011-13.

Next on the list is the A3090 stretch of the A36 in Totton in Hampshire which had a score of 201.7 in 2011-13 and 16 fatal and serious accidents.

The road with the most fatalities and serious accidents altogether was the 39km stretch of the A44 from Llangurig to Aberystwyth in Wales which has seen 51 people either killed or injured.

According to the report, Wales had the highest average risk of death or serious injury of any region in Britain per billion kilometres travelled in 2011 to 2013.
