Abandoned puppies and mother in such bad condition they 'couldn't see or stand'

Nine dogs found abandoned in Winchester were in such appalling condition there were unable to see or stand when rescued.

The animals, rescued earlier this week scattered about Winchester, are thought to be poodle crosses but the council’s dog warden was initially unable to identify them.

In a statement released today Winchester City Council confirmed the animals’ breed and said there were eight puppies, around a year old, and the dog’s mother.

“The dogs were abandoned on Tuesday evening, we are keen to hear from anyone who heard or saw anything to get in touch.”

“The dogs were in poor condition, unable to see or stand properly and with matted fur,” the spokesperson said.

Three of the strays were found at Upham, three at Morestead Road, two at Owslebury and one at Alresford. Local authorities are appealing for information about the animals.

All of the animals have now been taken into kennels and are receiving veterinary attention.
