LESLEY Thornton of the Independent on Sunday won two prizes at the Travelex Travel Writers Awards 1993, for her article 'Into the Kurdish Mountains' published in the Sunday Review last July. She was voted winner of the national newspaper category, and also overall winner. There were 400 print entries and 70 broadcast entries in the competition sponsored by Travelex, which provides financial services to travellers.
