Beatles hit used for Jubilee

"All You Need is Love", the Beatles classic commissioned by the BBC 35 years ago, is to be adopted by the corporation to become an anthem for the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations next week.

From an RAF band to an orchestra that plays Beatles' hits with traditional Turkish instruments, the song will be played simultaneously across the country on Monday.

The Queen will give the signal to start the countrywide performances at lunchtime as part of the BBC's Music Live event, a festival celebrating music across the Commonwealth in Hyde Park, London. Sir Paul McCartney will be joined by other artists for a final performance at the end of the day in the Party at the Palace.

The song was commissioned by the BBC from the Beatles and was first performed in June 1967 when the group represented Britain in the first global television link-up, called "Our World". The song was quickly released as a single and became a worldwide success.
