Body found in hunt for swimmer
The body of a man has been found by police searching for a swimmer who disappeared after he was seen getting into difficulties, police said today.
Thames Valley Police received reports from a member of the public that they had seen the man having problems while swimming in the River Thames, near the marina at Abingdon, Oxfordshire at about 4.30pm yesterday.
The force helicopter was scrambled and specialist police search officers with Oxfordshire firefighters began a search and rescue operation.
But at about 6.30pm, a body was recovered from the water, according to a Thames Valley Police spokesman.
The spokesman added: "The death is being treated as unexplained although it's not thought to be suspicious at this stage."
