Police searching for a young girl from Edinburgh have found a body.

Jasmine Macquaker, 14, was last seen at Dalemny Railway Station in South Queensferry at 8.30pm on Sunday night.

A missing person’s investigation was launched, and police appealed for help to locate the school girl.

But a member of the public reportedly found a body after 7 am on Monday morning along the coastline in North Queensferry, Fife.

She was last seen wearing a turquoise Rab jacket, dark grey jeans and grey plimsoles with a flower pattern.

Inspector Nick Young said: “It is out of character for Jasmine to go off on her own without telling anyone and we want to find her as quickly as possible.

“We are carrying out various lines of inquiry around Waverly station in Edinburgh and Dalmeny. I’d be very keen to hear from anyone who saw or perhaps spoke to the teenager at any point of the journey.

“Likewise, I’d ask anyone who had seen her any time after 5pm on Sunday to please contact police immediately.”

An extensive search effort involving specialist teams and partner agencies was organised.

Edinburgh police said formal identification is yet to be carried out, but officers have informed Ms Macquaker’s family.

Police have asked the family have their privacy at this very difficult time.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Anyone with any information should call police Scotland on 101.
