Two nine-year-old boys were being treated for serious head injuries yesterday after a tree fell on top of them at a cricket club.

High winds brought the tree down as the boys were waiting to play in the practice nets at the Spencer Cricket Club in Earlsfield, south London. A third boy, also nine, sustained an injury to his leg. All three were taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting. Forecasters said winds reached 40mph in the area.
