A diver has been put into a hyperbaric unit
A woman has died and another person is being treated hospital after a suspected diving accident off the Yorkshire coast.
The coastguard was alerted by a dive boat at 2:35pm on Sunday that a 60-year-old woman was unconscious. A search and rescue helicopter and an RNLI lifeboat attended the scene.
The emergency services airlifted the woman to hospital in Hull, where she was pronounced dead on arrival, according to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
Another person is being assessed at hospital, where they have been placed into a hyperbaric unit as a precaution.
It is understood the two were involved in a diving accident.
A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokeswoman said: “The woman was flown to Hull Royal Infirmary where Hull Coastguard Rescue Team met the helicopter.
"However, despite the efforts of all involved, the diver was declared dead on arrival at the hospital."
Lucy Hicks of Humber Coastguard said: "This is a very sad outcome and our thoughts are with the lady's friends and all those who tried to help her."
