Three British soldiers killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan were named by the Ministry of Defence today as Captain Mark Hale, Rifleman Daniel Wild and Lance Bombardier Matthew Hatton.
Capt Hale and Rifleman Wild, from 2nd Battalion The Rifles, and L/Bdr Hatton, from 40th Regiment Royal Artillery, died following an explosion while on a foot patrol near Sangin in Helmand province.
The three soldiers were serving with the Rifles Battlegroup,
Their deaths on Thursday brought the total UK death toll in the country to 199.
