Donations to the charity chosen by Claire Squires, who died running the London Marathon, have broken the £1m mark.

The hairdresser, 30, had raised £500 for the Samaritans but following her collapse just one mile from the finish of the marathon on Sunday, donations have poured in. Nearly 72,000 people have given to the fund.

Catherine Johnstone, chief executive of the Samaritans, said she would discuss with Claire's family how Claire would have liked the money spent.
