The threat of travel disruption during the August bank holiday intensified yesterday when staff at Eurostar voted to strike, and thousands more workers joined the dispute with British Airways.
Union leaders at Eurostar said services could be affected if its customer service and other station staff at Waterloo in London and Ashford in Kent walk out, as expected, on the bank holiday weekend. The rail company, whose workers complain of a £4,000 pay differential between staff in Kent and London, said services would continue.
The Transport workers' Union said its members at airports, including baggage handlers and check-in staff, will stage a 24-hour walkout on 27 August.
