Tottenham warehouse fire: More than 100 firefighters battle massive blaze near White Hart Lane

A huge fire in north London which gutted a warehouse has finally been brought under control by more than a hundred firefighters.

Emergency services took tens of calls after a clothing warehouse in Tottenham went up in flames just before 10pm on Friday night, according to London Fire Brigade.

Twenty fire engines and about 120 firefighters arrived at the scene to deal with the billowing smoke and blaze, with about 30 people being evacuated from their homes initially.

Bill Dunn, a station manager who was at the scene, said the fire was at risk of spreading to two nearby warehouses when the team arrived.

"When they arrived our crews faced a large, well-developed fire and they worked incredibly hard in what were extremely challenging conditions to successfully prevent it from spreading to two neighbouring warehouses.

"At its height, we had over 100 firefighters at the scene."

The clothing warehouse and a smaller building, both by White Hart Lane, were completely gutted by the fire, but crews managed to save the two nearby buildings from serious damage.

Residents were able to return to their homes after the blaze was brought under control around 2.20am.

One commentator on Twitter, Yakup Bozdag, said: "Why we should respect firefighters even more. Tottenham fire..."

Another eyewitness, Mike Wood, tweeted according to The Guardian: "Pretty big fire just across the road from me in Tottenham. Probably a firework as it seem to start from the roof."

Ambulances were called to the scene but no injuries were reported.
