THE Government was criticised yesterday for new rules restricting some immigrants from joining family members in Britain unless they can provide a pounds 750,000 'dowry'. Under rules of entry introduced yesterday, some would-be immigrants will be barred unless they can invest that sum in government stocks and shares.
The move has been attacked by lawyers for threatening family unity. The Law Society's immigration spokeswoman, Ruth Bundey, said: 'It is ironic that in 1994, the UN Year of the Family, this government makes family reunion even more difficult.
