Libby Squire: Missing 21-year-old student 'may have come to some harm', police say

Investigators release replica of clothing she was wearing on night of disappearance

Police searching for missing Hull University student Libby Squire have said they fear she may have “come to some harm”.

The comments came as Humberside Police released images of replicas of clothing the 21-year-old was wearing on the night she disappeared.

A replica of Ms Squire's outfit provided by Topshop – a black denim skirt, faux leather jacket and black trainers – has helped identify her in the CCTV footage used to piece together her movements on the night of Thursday 31 January.

Detective Superintendent Martin Smalley said: “While we do continue to be hopeful and we will always keep an open mind, Libby has been missing for 14 days now and we sadly have to consider she may have come to some harm.

“We are continuing to support Libby’s family through this incredibly difficult and distressing time. They are understandably distraught not knowing where their daughter and loved one is, and we will endeavour to give them the answers they desperately need.”

CCTV images released on Wednesday showed Ms Squire walking towards The Welly nightclub in Beverley Road on the night she disappeared. The philosophy student appeared unsteady on her feet.

She is believed to have taken a taxi home from the nightclub after she was refused entry. The 21-year-old was dropped off in a taxi near her home at 11.29pm and was then seen 10 minutes later near a bench back on Beverley Road. She is believed to have been in this area until about 12.09am on Friday.

Previously released CCTV footage shows a man getting in and out of a car around the time of her disappearance, close to where the missing student was last seen.

“More work is now taking place behind the scenes rather than in public view, however this does not mean the investigation is slowing or coming to an end, it is exactly the opposite and is very much active and ongoing,” said DS Smalley.

Pawel Relowicz, 24, was arrested last Wednesday on suspicion of abduction.

Earlier this week police announced that Mr Relowicz had been charged with unrelated offenses: three counts of burglary, voyerism and outraging public decency reported between December 2017 and January this year.

Speaking through a Polish interpreter, he pleaded not guilty to all charges at Hull Magistrates Court on Monday. He is due to appear at Hull Crown Court on 11 March.

On Wednesday evening, family and friends of Ms Squire held a vigil in her hometown of West Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.

About 300 people attended the two-hour service at St Paul’s church, where candles were lit and prayers were said.

Her parents also released new family photos on Wednesday and said in a statement: “Libby is a much loved big sister to her three younger siblings. They all really look up to her and she always expects them to behave.

“Libby has a big heart. She is always happy and having fun. She laughs a lot. She is a real family person, and loves spending time at home with them.”
