South Kensington tube station evacuated amid 'grenade' fears

South Kensington station is again operating normally following a scare over a 'suspicious object' seen on one of the platforms

South Kensington tube station was evacuated following reports of a suspicious object found on the platform.

Transport authorities suspended the Circle Line passing through the station on Monday.

Several social media reports suggested the object was a "grenade" or some form of explosive.

British Transport Police said they had investigated reports of a suspicious object, but deemed it not to be a threat.

There were no immediate reports on what the object was.

The station was cordoned off for about 30 minutes, but officials said the service is now operating and the station has been reopened.

The scare comes in the days following an attack by a gunman on holiday makers in Tunisia in which 38 people were killed.

South Kensington is an area of London popular with tourists as it contains a number of the capital's bestl-known museums.
