A man has died after falling from the summit of a mountain.
Alan Burns, 39, from Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, had been walking with two friends on Helvellyn in the Lake District when the accident happened.
Police received a report that Mr Burns had fallen from Swirral Edge at about 3.15pm on Monday.
A rescue operation was launched by Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team who found him suffering from serious head injuries.
He was airlifted by an RAF Kinloss team to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where he later died.
A Cumbria Police spokeswoman said: "There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and the immediate family of Mr Burns has been informed."
