An elderly man has died after being knocked down by his own car in Glasgow.

The 72-year-old man reached into his Honda Accord on Strathcona Gardens, in Anniesland, to start the engine.

The vehicle began to move, causing the man to fall over onto the pathway and he was then dragged underneath.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the accident on Wednesday and the man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

He later died in hospital.

Sergeant Craig Beaver, of Police Scotland, asked for witnesses to come forward.

“A number of people came to assist the injured man during this incident,” he said.

“However some of them had left on police arrival and I would ask any witnesses who have not yet spoken to officers to please contact us.”
